  1. There are a few noted publishers that offer books to assist in addressing the needs of exceptionally bright young people:

    Great Potential Press
http://www.giftedbooks.com/ (we highly recommend A Parent's Guide to Gifted Children)

    Free Spirit Publishing
    http://www.freespirit.com/
(publisher of Bringing Out the Best: A Guide for Parents of Young Gifted Children)

    Prufrock Press
    http://www.prufrock.com/
(we also recommend Parenting Gifted Kids: Tips for Raising Happy and Successful Children)

    Hoagies' Gifted Education Page
http://www.hoagiesgifted.org/ is another good resource for parents of gifted children. Hoagies' includes listings of toys and games that appeal to bright young people, as well as other information using the search term "young gifted."

Hoagies' also offers information about online parent support groups (see http://www.hoagiesgifted.org/on-line_support.htm). While I cannot speak to the security of these list serves or the quality of the content, a number of families have found it helpful to connect with other families, and there may be some in your area that are on such a list.

Nurturing your child’s academic interests at home is also very important. You may want to consider looking through homeschooling resources to continue encouraging your child to learn at home:

“Creative Homeschooling: A Resource Guide for Smart Families” by Lisa Rivero http://www.gt-cybersource.org/Record.aspx?NavID=2_0&rid=14138

“The Complete Home Learning Sourcebook” http://www.directtextbook.com/prices/0609801090 or GT CyberSource Record

These and other homeschooling resources listed in GT-CyberSource and on Hoagies' may help you to develop options.
